Total Sulfur analysis is making the future a clean place. As the full environmental impact of greenhouse gas emissions becomes apparent, regulatory agencies such as the U.S. EPA are spearheading dramatic sulfur level restrictions in motor fuels. Since 2006, the allowed sulfur content of diesel fuel had been reduced from 500 ppm to 15 ppm within the United States. These initiatives are also being implemented by other industrialized nations, particularly within the European Union and Asia Pacific region. There is now a clear trend towards more stringent limits on the sulfur content of motor fuels.
